SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Four Indiana University Kokomo men's distance runners competed in the second annual NAIA Marathon Classic Sunday morning in California, a race that essentially serves as the NAIA's unofficial championship while the event moves from a special event, to an emerging sport, and finally to a national championship status.
Sunday's race, ran in conjunction with the California International Marathon, featured near perfect weather for a 26.2 mile competition, as competitiors began near the Folsom Dam and ended in Sacramento.
IU Kokomo junior
Kyle Thibideau was the first of the three men's student-athletes competing Sunday to cross the finish line, as he finished 33rd in a time of 2:45:45.
Bryce Stateler was the second of three men's student-athletes to make their NAIA Marathon Classic debut, finishing 40th with a time of 2:52:24.
Senior
Luis Saldana came back for seconds after competing in last year's inaugural event. Luis crossed the finish line in a time of 2:52:55, good for 41st.Â
Local product
Caleb Vogl finished 47th with a time of 3:18.33.
