Cougars Improve to .500 with 21-Point Road Win at SMWC

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team returned to the win column Tuesday night, handling the Pomeroys of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods thanks to a strong second half.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • IU Kokomo came out strong, scoring the game's first five points and building a 15-8 advantage by the end of the opening quarter. The Pomeroys responded in the second, edging the Cougars 15-13 in the frame, but IU Kokomo still carried a 28-23 lead into halftime.
  • Head coach Lisa Pflueger's squad locked in defensively to open the third quarter, holding SMWC scoreless until the 5:53 mark while rattling off the first eight points of the second half.
  • The third quarter was all IU Kokomo however, as the Cougars outscored the Pomeroys 20-6 in the third quarter for a 19-point lead through three quarters.
  • The Cougars never allowed the Pomeroys to cut the margin below 20 in the second half, pulling away for a decisive 63-42 victory to move to 11-11 overall and 7-6 in River States Conference play.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • All nine Cougars who saw action found the scoring column in the win, led by double-digit performances from Lexi DiOrio and Moriah Crawford.
  • DiOrio led all scorers with a season- and game-high 15 points, while also recording a career-best eight steals in a dominant all-around performance.
  • Moriah Crawford notched her third double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
