CEDARVILLE, Ohio. - Led by upperclassmen
Tanner Gibson and Gabe Wedmore, the IU Kokomo Men's Outdoor Track & Field team competed Saturday at Cedarville University's Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open.
Tanner Gibson, a senior sprinter out of Noblesville, Indiana, set a new school record in the 100 meters with a time of 10.80 seconds. Gibson finished 15th of 75 competitors, and currently leads the conference with his school record time.
Gibson also played a key role on the 4x100 meter relay team that finished fifth while turning in the second best time in program history. Gibson, along with DJ Elliott,
Brayden Voght, and
Trevon Hess, finished in a time of 42.99 seconds.
Elliott would also turn in the fourth best Long Jump mark in program history, finishing 16th of 39 with a jump of 6.20 meters.
Junior thrower Gabe Wedmore has carried his momentum over from indoor season, as he delivered a school record breaking throw of 51.82 meters in the Hammer Throw to finish 4th of 45. Teammate
Evan Gaylor followed Wedmore in fifth with the second best mark in school history, a toss of 51.20 meters.
Fellow thrower
Seth Ireland impressed in Discus with a ninth-place finish of 55 competitors, climbing the ranks to second all-time in program history with his best throw of 45.06 meters.
Freshman distance runner
Ayden Potts is now third all-time in school history in the 800 meters, as he finished 26th Saturday in a time of 2:01.08.
The Cougars are set for a busy weekend, as they will compete Friday and Saturday in Allendale, Michigan, as part of Grand Valley State's Early Meet.
