GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The 2024-2025 Indoor Track and Field season has now come to a close with the conclusion of the 2025 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, as the IU Kokomo Women's Team finished 25th, the program's highest ever finish at Indoor Nationals.

The race-walkers' got things started for the Cougars on the week, as both the women's and men's prelims were held Thursday. IU Kokomo's
Maddie Dotlich and
Jacob Bumgardner were each disqualified due to technical faults, as was 25% of the field in the women's race and 30% of the field in the men's race.
IU Kokomo had two more competitors in action Friday, led by senior distance runner
Hannah Wells in the women's one mile run, entering the event ranked 19th in the NAIA. Wells set a new school record time of 5:13.92 by five seconds, as she finished three spots better than her seeding in 16th.
The aforementioned Shot Put National Champion in
Sydney Duncan kicked off her weekend in Weight Throw, finishing 22nd in Friday's competition. If anything however, competing in Friday's Weight Throw event should have helped ease the nerves ahead of her title chase in Shot Put Saturday.
Men's throwers
Evan Gaylor and Gabe Wedmore both competed in Saturday's Shot Put competition, with one in each flight. Gaylor opened by finishing second in Flight 1 with a toss of 15.81 meters, while Wedmore finished sixth in Flight B with a throw of 15.50 meters.
Both Gaylor and Wedmore missed out on advancing to the Finals, settling for 14th and 20th place finishes respectively. Gaylor was seeded 32nd, impressively improving upon that rank by 18 spots.
The attention now turns to Outdoor Track & Field season, as the first meet on the docket is March 14th's Early Spring Meet, hosted by University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).
