LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The IU Kokomo Baseball closed out a three-game set in Georgia Friday, dropping contests to (RV) Indiana Wesleyan and #3 Georgia Gwinnett to fall to 2-9 on the year.
Game One: 15-3 Loss to (RV) Indiana Wesleyan
- Indiana Wesleyan struck first with a pair of runs in the second, taking an early 2-0 lead.
- IU Kokomo got on the scoreboard in the home-half of the fourth inning. Gavin Smith led off the frame with a single before advancing to third on a base-hit by Kasey Ross, eventually scoring on a Luke Hanson RBI groundout.
- The Wildcats of IWU would score two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings before a four-run seventh, extending what was a one-run lead to nine at 10-1.
- The Cougars scratched a run across in the bottom of the seventh, as Garrett Lupoi reached via fielder's choice before scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Gavin Smith.
- Each team pushed a run across in the eighth, keeping it an eight-run game with an inning to play.
- Indiana Wesleyan closed the game strong, scoring three insurance runs in the top of the ninth before slamming the door on IU Kokomo, winning 15-3 in game one of the day.
Game Two: 15-4 Loss to #3 Georgia Gwinnett
- IU Kokomo found the scoreboard first in the final of three games in Lawrenceville in two days. The Cougars had three-straight hits to open the game, with cleanup hitter Jacob Medvescek blooping a ball into right-field that dropped, but resulted in a force-out at second.
- Gavin Smith and Brayden Coffey each scored in the first for the Cougars, giving IUK a 2-0 lead after a half inning.
- #3 Georgia Gwinnett wasted no time getting on the scoreboard themselves, hanging crooked numbers in each of the first four innings to lead 14-3 through four.
- The Cougars third run of the game came in the third, as Judah Hennessy reached on a fielder's choice before scoring on a wild pitch later in the frame.
- After a scoreless fifth, the first scoreless inning of the game, the Grizzlies scored one in the sixth before IU Kokomo followed with one in the seventh. Georgia Gwinnett closed out a 15-4 run-rule victory, improving to 9-1 on the season.
The Cougars will head south next week for a fourth-consecutive weekend to open the season, as they will participate in the 2025 Midwest Clash held at Freed-Hardeman University.
