Volleyball Picks Up Third-Consecutive Sweep in Final Non-Conference Match of Season

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The IU Kokomo volleyball squad picked up a third-consecutive sweep Friday night, taking down IU South Bend for an eighth-straight win overall. The Cougars are now 15-4 overall.

IU Kokomo jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before IU South Bend responded to take their first lead of the match at 6-2.

The Titans led 17-15 in the latter half of the opening set, but the Cougars won six of the next seven points to regain a four-point lead. The IUK defense proved stout late in the set, giving the Cougs a 25-20 first set win.

IU South Bend won the first point of the second set, but IU Kokomo won four-straight points to take a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the set. The Cougars doubled up the Titans 16-8 and 20-10, on their way to a 25-17 set victory.

The home team led for much of the early parts of the third set before IU Kokomo overtook them, but the two sides were even at 13 apiece halfway through the frame.

From that point on it was all Cougars, as the visitors closed the match on a 12-3 run to close out the straight set win in the final non-conference match of the regular season.

Junior setter Allison Richman led the Cougars in assists with 17, as fellow setter Kaley Lyons added 13 and nine digs. Lexi Broyles, Maggie Connell, and Mya Grigsby each recorded nine kills to lead IUK offensively. Grigsby also totaled a team-high 13 digs.

Alexis Baney and Lexi Broyles each tallied three total blocks, while Richman had a pair.

The Cougars will return to River States Conference play for good Tuesday evening, as the Crimson Pride of IU Columbus are set to come to town Tuesday for a 7:00 PM first serve.
