KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team played well Tuesday night but it was not enough, as they fell 67-55 to a tough Midway squad.
Midway took an early 4-0 lead, but
Anna Kiser started strong, scoring four-straight points to tie the game at four. The Eagles of Midway answered with a 7-0 spurt to take an 11-4 lead with 3:24 remaining in the first quarter. Midway led 20-10 after a quarter.
The Eagles of Midway continued their strong play early in the second quarter, extending the lead to 16 and keeping it there for much of the quarter. Trailing 36-22 with 1:24 remaining in the half, the Cougars closed the quarter on an 8-0 run.
Kristen Ridner and
Olivia Dowden drained threes on consecutive possessions and Dowden scored in the paint with 11 seconds left to make it a six-point deficit at halftime.
Ella Wolfe drained a pair of free-throws out of halftime to trim the deficit to four, and after Midway scored on their end,
Kristen Ridner drilled a three to pull the Cougars within three-points. With the 3:44 remaining in the third quarter, Midway's lead was seven at 44-37, but the Cougars made sure to stay in striking distance and trailed 48-42 heading into the fourth quarter.
Less than three minutes into the final quarter, Midway had extended their lead back to double-digits at 56-45. The Eagles maintained at least an eight-point lead for the remainder of the game and went on to beat IU Kokomo 67-55.
Anna Kiser led IU Kokomo Tuesday, scoring 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
Lilly Maple and
Kristen Ridner each added six points, and
Ella Wolfe had a team-high four assists.
The Cougars will be back-in-action Saturday afternoon as they travel to New Albany to take on IU Southeast.
