FORT WAYNE, Ind. & GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The IU Kokomo women's indoor track and field team competed in two different meets Friday evening. The sprinters, jumpers, and throwers traveled to Indiana Tech to compete in the Warrior Opener, while a pair of distance runners traveled to Grand Valley State University. Both meets were very competitive and full of great performances.
The throwers had another very successful meet. Freshmen Sydney Duncan started the day off by breaking the shot put school record that was only a week old. Duncan's new record of 12.31m was good for second in the meet. Sophomore Faith Rock also impressed in the shot put with a fourth-place finish and a personal record mark of 12.09m.
Freshmen Rebekah Ankrum finished sixth in high jump with a mark of 1.44m.
Further north at GVSU, distance runners Leslie Sprankles and Hannah Wells competed well at the Holiday Opener. Sprankles ran an impressive 800m time of 2:26.18. Hannah Wells is now second all time is school history for the indoor 5000m run with a time of 18:55.35.
