INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Cougar women's indoor track and field team opened their season at the University of Indianapolis on Saturday with competition roster made up of mainly sprinters, jumpers, and throwers, as the distance runners are recovering from a successful cross country season. 

The Cougar throwers looked very impressive in the opener, setting new school records in the shot put and weight throw. Senior Emma Byrum finished first place in shot put with a school record mark of 12.14m, while sophomore Faith Rock finished second with a mark of 11.88m.  

Freshman Sydney Duncan had a strong debut with a third-place finish in the weight throw, recording a school record mark of 13.96m.  

Fellow freshman Paige Brooks began her first college indoor season with a record-breaking performance of her own. Brooks claimed the 400m record with a time of 1:04.82.  

Hannah Wells was one of the few distance runners to compete and was able to carry over the momentum from her historic cross country season. Wells finished third place in the 3000m run with a time of 11:04.71. 

Here is what Sprints Coach Nolan Talley had to say about the women's performance on Saturday: "I am very pleased with how our women competed in the opener meet. We had lots of freshmen competing in their very first collegiate track meet, and they were able to perform at a high level across the board. I can't wait to see the potential of this team with a full roster."

The Cougars will be back in action next Friday, as they travel to Indiana Tech to compete in the Warrior Opener.
