Cougar Esports Wins Overwatch Matchup 3-1 Over Purdue Console

KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo Esports team earned a 3-1 win in Overwatch Thursday evening, improving to 2-0 in the Overwatch regular season matches.

Game 1

Purdue lead off by selecting Shambali Monastery as the first map of the evening.  Starting off the night, Purdue rocked an Orisa Brawl comp surrounded by a Cassidy, Moira, Soldier, and Illiari.  To match them, IUK brought out their own brawl comp consisting of Ramatra, Soldier, Sombra, Kiriko, and Illari.

In game one, IUK held off their opponents rather easily, winning both matches while dominating the control point.  IUK was led by huge play from the team in general and a large support damage disparity with IUK racking up about 8000 damage to Purdue's 3,500.

IU Kokomo won game one 2-0.

Game 2

With IUK winning game one, Purdue was given map choice of the next match, leading to a selection of King's Row.  Here, Purdue did not change up their lineup while IUK swapped Illari for Zen and Sombra for Junkrat/Mei.  IUK attacked first and was able to get a massive push until the second capture point where they were held until a last second over time push to take the capture point before a swift capture of the final and third point.

On the flip side of thing, Purdue seemed to get a fast push of their own, until they reached the same choke point before the second capture point that gave IUK trouble the previous round.  Here, IUK was able to hold strong with timely ultimates from their Ramatra [JohnLemons] that led to the second win of the series.  Kiriko [Roo] was a huge part of the team's win with a 5k damage and 17k healing combo as well asadditional massive game from Ramatra [JohnLemons], who had 36 eliminations compared to four deaths in the game.

IU Kokomo won game two 3-1.

Game 3

Savanna was the map selection for Flashpoint, and this is where Purdue grabbed back the reins of the series.  Rolling out Orisa, Reaper,Moira, Mei, and Kiriko this round, they were able to dominate the objectives, taking the first two points while controlling the space with great close range play.

IUK took point three, but were unable to even get a capture for the fourth and final point that Purdue captured to seal their first victory of the series.  Purdue's victory can be credited to great play from their reaper [catus], and moira [gojosatoru] going 22-7 & 21-4 respectively.

Purdue wins game three 3-1.

Game 4

For the fourth match, the map was Colesso on push.  For the first half of the match it was very back and forth between both teams, which were again both brawl compositions.  In order to get a massive push, IUK's co-captain zPunda made a switch to Hanzo where he was able to get multiple multi eliminations in different team fights.  This allowed IUK to get a push almost double the size of Purdue's.

After this massive push, Purdue fought back and pushed to almost take back the lead at the very end.  With a Ramatra ult by JohnLemons and a Nano from Lookurdead, IUK was able to secure the 3-1 win, wiping Purdue as time ran out.

IU Kokomo wins game four to win the match 3-1.
