KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo Esports Overwatch squad reverse swept University of Missouri Club Sumatra this past Thursday in a Semifinal matchup in the NECC Navigator Division Great Lakes Conference Playoffs.
The 4-2 win gives head coach
Nick Liegey's squad a Championship match appearance in his first year at the helm of the program.
The Tigers of Missouri Club Sumatra opened the best-of-seven series with a vengeance, taking games one and two for a 2-0 lead in the match.
IU Kokomo did well to bounce back and tie the match 2-2, as the Cougars blanked the Tigers 3-0 and 1-0 in games three and four.
Dylan Keever [Lookurdead] recorded 25 eliminations in each of the two games to even the score.
The Cougars maintained their momentum in a crucial game five, as they eeked out a 2-1 win to take a 3-2 lead in the series.
Needing to win one of the final two games to move on, IU Kokomo won game six 2-0 to clinch their spot in Thursday's Championship match.
Sean Sonnenberg [JohnLemons] led the Cougars in eliminations in the final two games, tallying 27 and 25 respectively.
The Cougars will take on the Southern Illinois University Salukis in the Championship Match of the NECC Navigator Division Great Lakes Conference. The match will take place this Thursday at 8:00 PM ET, and will be live streamed on Twitch.
