KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback in their season opener on Wednesday night at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. 
 
The Cougars managed to take nine shots, three of which were on frame. Morgan Scruggs and Mackenzie Pedigo led the team with three shots each and one on goal. 
 
It was in the 35th minute when the Saints struck, scoring the eventual game-winner off a corner kick to make it 1-0 with just 10 minutes to play in the opening half. 
 
Joslyn Reader ripped a shot in the 40th minute that missed left of the frame. That would be the final shot of the half as the Cougars went into the locker room trailing 1-0. 
 
Pedigo a scoring chance early in the second half as the put the Cougars' first shot on goal but the Saints' keeper made the save, keeping Holy Cross in front, 1-0. 
 
The Saints added another goal in the 62nd minute as an IU Kokomo mishap resulted in a 2-0 advantage for Holy Cross. 
 
In the closing minutes, Pedigo has the best scoring chance of the night for the Cougars but was unable to find the back of the net. The junior's initial shot ricocheted off the crossbar and her rebound attempt hit the right post. 
 
The Cougars will return to the pitch on Saturday as they host Governors State University at 1:00 p.m.
