KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team-controlled play from the opening-tip Wednesday evening, on their way to a non-conference win over Huntington University. With the win, the Cougars improve to 2-8 overall.
IU Kokomo scored the opening 12 points of the game to take a commanding 12-0 lead just four minutes into the game. A
Tia Chambers three-point play gave the Cougars their largest lead of the quarter of 15 at 19-4. The Cougars held the Foresters to a 20% field goal percentage in the opening quarter and took a 22-10 lead into the second quarter.
The second period proved to be much more competitive than the first, however IU Kokomo narrowly outscored Huntington 19-17 to extend their lead to 14 at halftime.
Tia Chambers had 17 first-half points while
Anya Friend contributed 15.
The second half was played at a much slower pace and featured just 41 total points between the two squads. Huntington was able to cut the IUK lead to ten at 43-33 but IU Kokomo outscored Huntington 9-6 over the final 4:49 of the third quarter to carry a 52-39 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Cougars led by 13 at 54-41 before an Emily Seboe triple dropped the deficit to ten with 6:39 remaining in the game. IU Kokomo responded quickly with eight straight points and ended the game on an 8-3 run to knock off Huntington 62-47.
Senior
Tia Chambers led IU Kokomo with 25 points and seven rebounds on the night. Freshman
Anya Friend added 20 to pace the Cougar attack.
The Cougars will hit the road for their final RSC matchup of 2021 Saturday afternoon, as they take on IU Southeast Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
