KOKOMO, Ind. — IU Kokomo fell to Mount Vernon Nazarene (OH) 3-1 on Saturday. The Cougars generated nine of their 11 shots in the second half and finished with 10 saves, while Mount Vernon Nazarene held a 25-11 advantage in shots.
First Half
- Mount Vernon Nazarene generated several early opportunities, but goalkeeper Liz Godfrey made a pair of saves in the opening 16 minutes to keep the match scoreless.
- Elizabeth Posner recorded IU Kokomo's first shot at 3:44 before Kaiya Money put the Cougars' first attempt on goal at 17:28, forcing a save from MVNU goalkeeper Hailey Burger.
- Godfrey made another save on Cora Bishop at 28:19 as the visitors continued to apply pressure.
- The Cougar defense held strong despite Mount Vernon Nazarene earning six corner kicks in the opening half, sending the match into halftime scoreless.
Second Half
- Grace Jarrells put the Cougars' first shot of the half on frame at 47:35, but Mount Vernon Nazarene broke the scoreless tie less than two minutes later when Alex Erslan scored off an Anna Sweeney assist.
- Godfrey made three saves during an MVNU stretch from 53:04 to 64:18 that included seven shots and four corner kicks, keeping the deficit at 1-0.
- Mount Vernon Nazarene extended its lead with goals from Emmie Hoffman at 68:46 and Chelsea Simpson at 73:45 to make it 3-0.
- Avery Wilson got the Cougars on the board at 84:10, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
- IU Kokomo continued to push forward, registering four shots over the final minutes, but MVNU held on for the 3-1 victory.

The Cougars return to action Wednesday, Sept. 16, when they travel to face the University of Cincinnati-Clermont at 5 p.m. at NKU Soccer Stadium in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
