SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — IU Kokomo (1-1-0) secured a decisive 22-0 victory over Mission (Mo.) (0-2-0) on Saturday. The Cougars dominated the match, recording 52 shots with 42 on target while maintaining a shutout throughout the game. This performance set the record for the most goals scored in a match in program history.
First Half
- IU Kokomo took an early lead with a goal by Madison Balf at 3:26, marking her first career IUK goal and setting the tone for the first half.
- Avery Wilson doubled the lead at 10:53 with a strike, giving the Cougars a 2-0 advantage.
- Kaitlyn Swartzendruber scored twice in a span of six minutes, first at 18:46 and again at 23:40, contributing to her record-breaking five-goal performance, the most by a Cougar in program history.
- IU Kokomo concluded the half with goals from Gia Tumber at 32:02, Aubree Jarrells at 33:33, scoring her first collegiate goal, and Mackenzie Stroud at 43:35, also her first collegiate goal, leading Mission (Mo.) 8-0 at the break. This marked the most goals scored in a half in program history until the Cougars upped that mark in the second half.
Second Half
- Laila Stuckey opened the scoring for the Cougars at 54:53, increasing the lead to 9-0.
- Gia Tumber's goal at 57:26 and Avery Wilson's strike at 60:12 continued the offensive surge for IU Kokomo, bringing the score to 11-0.
- Cloey Thomas and Kaiya Money added goals at 65:01 and 66:07, respectively, with Thomas securing her first collegiate goal, extending the Cougs' advantage to 14-0.
- Kaitlyn Swartzendruber scored twice in quick succession at 67:47 and 68:18, the latter assisted by Allison Crump, who also scored her first collegiate goal, to make it 16-0.
- Charity Lewis and Cloey Thomas each scored twice more, with Lewis finding the net at 81:36 and 86:51, while Thomas closed the scoring at 87:52. Three different Cougars, including Swartzendruber, recorded hat-tricks in this game, marking the first hat-trick recorded by a Cougar since November of 2023, sealing a 22-0 victory for IU Kokomo.
