THE RUNDOWN
  • Marian got the scoring started in this slug fest, as they hit a solo shot in the top of the second to give themselves a 1-0 lead. They would add on another run the following frame thanks to an RBI single, and would put up a four spot in the fourth behind five hits in the inning.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, the Cougar offense would answer as Nate Montgomery led off with a single, and would move to third a batter later as Payton Hankins doubled to left center. After Rodney Rachel reached on an error that brought Montgomery home, Corbin Napier would launch a three-run bomb to left, the first of his Cougar career, to bring IUK within two.
  • Jude Ruddy would keep things going as he singled into right center field, and moved up to second as Caden Whitehead sacrificed himself. Later in the frame, with two outs and Ruddy still stuck at second, Noah Wolf stepped to the plate, and obliterated his first IUK home run to even up the score at six.
  • After Jacob Forson held the Knights scoreless in the fifth, the IUK offense tacked on one more run as Payton Hankins drew a one out walk, Rodney Rachel reached on a bunt single, and both runners moved up 90 feet after a throwing error on the bunt. Hankins would come in to score a couple of batters later, courtesy of a Jude Ruddy sacrifice fly.
  • With a 7-6 lead though five, the Cougars turned to Drew Youmans out of the pen, who shut down the Marian offense in the sixth and seventh.
  • Headed to the top of the eighth, the game was delayed due to severe weather in the area, and the game paused for just over an hour.
  • Coming out of the break, the Knight offense was ready to go, as they jumped out with a four spot behind an RBI double and back-to-back home runs, taking a 10-7 lead.
  • The Cougar offense would respond in the bottom half, as Jedvier Garcia got things started with a one-out single, followed by a Noah Wolf double, as both scored on a Nate Montgomery single into right field with two outs.
  • The Knights proceeded to add one more run in the top of the ninth before shutting down IUK's offense to secure their 11-9 victory.
