KOKOMO, Ind. — IU Kokomo women's soccer opened River States Conference play Thursday evening with a 2-0 loss to IU East at Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
The Cougars put four of their nine shots on frame, while goalkeeper Sydney Miller made eight saves as the Red Wolves finished the night with a 19-9 advantage in shots.
First Half
- IU Kokomo produced the first opportunities of the match, as Addison Waller sent an attempt wide in the 10th minute before Avery Wilson put the Cougars' first shot on goal less than two minutes later.
- Miller turned away back-to-back IU East attempts in the 22nd minute, but the Red Wolves broke through at 23:27 when Madison Schwalm scored off an assist from Mia Runyan to take a 1-0 lead.
- Waller nearly provided an answer in the 28th minute, forcing a save with an attempt on goal.
- IU East applied pressure late in the half with three corner kicks and four shots over the final 12 minutes, but Miller added another save as the Cougars went into halftime trailing 1-0.
Second Half
- The Cougars came out on the attack after the break, as Madison Balf put a shot on frame just over a minute into the half before Charity Lewis sent an attempt high.
- IU East doubled its advantage at 50:33, scoring its second goal of the night to move in front 2-0.
- Miller kept the Cougars within striking distance as the Red Wolves continued to create chances, making four saves between the 54th and 71st minutes to keep the deficit at two.
- IU Kokomo continued searching for a breakthrough down the stretch. Balf forced another save in the 78th minute, while Hannah Hermansen sent an attempt wide before the Cougars earned a late corner.
- Kaiya Money had one final opportunity off the ensuing pressure, but her header was blocked as IU East closed out the 2-0 result.
Cougars Top Performers
The Cougars will look to bounce back Saturday when they return to the road for an RSC matchup with Brescia University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 PM ET at Kamuf Park in Owensboro, Kentucky.
