Cougars Suffer Heartbreaking Loss in Final Seconds to Brescia

KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team returned to River States Conference action for the remainder of the season but came up short Saturday, falling to Brescia after controlling much of the contest.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • IU Kokomo and Brescia exchanged baskets early in the opening quarter before the Cougars began to pull away, doubling up the Bearcats at 12–6 with 3:02 remaining in the period and carrying a 14–8 advantage after ten minutes.
  • Brescia opened the second quarter with six straight points to tie the game at 14 less than two minutes in, but head coach Lisa Pflueger's squad responded by rebuilding the lead, which grew to as many as 10. The Cougars took a seven-point advantage into the locker room at halftime.
  • The third quarter featured another strong performance from IU Kokomo in which the Cougars once again outscored the Bearcats, extending a seven-point halftime lead to ten after 30 minutes.
  • Despite shooting just 33 percent themselves, Brescia limited IU Kokomo to 23 percent shooting in the fourth quarter and outscored the Cougars 18–7 over the final ten minutes to escape with a 67–66 win. IU Kokomo had multiple chances to potentially seal the game at the free-throw line but was unable to convert.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Four Cougars reached double figures, highlighted by one of the best performances of Mackenzie York's career. The sophomore guard poured in a game-high and career-high 17 points, connecting on several timely shots throughout the contest.
  • Cameryn Rector added 16 points, while Mia Catey chipped in 12 points and pulled down six rebounds.
  • Junior post Millie Scorsone recorded an IU Kokomo career-high 11 points in just eight minutes of action, shooting an efficient 5-of-6 from the field.
