ATHENS, Tenn. - The Indiana University Kokomo baseball team closed out its season-opening four-game series at fifth-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday afternoon, dropping game one of the doubleheader 7-0 before falling 4-2 in the series finale.

THE RUNDOWN
- Scoreless through three innings, Tennessee Wesleyan scored three runs on a pair of extra-base hits in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-0 lead midway through the game.
- Payton Hankins drew a two-out walk in the fifth inning to give the Cougars their first baserunner of the afternoon, as Bulldogs left-hander Justin Jackson worked effectively through much of his 6+ innings on the mound.
- The Bulldogs added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, along with a two-run seventh, to close out a 7-0 victory and clinch the series win.
LEADING THE CHARGE
- Junior LHP AJ Burkhalter got the start Friday in game three of the weekend for IU Kokomo and turned in a solid outing, opening the game with three scoreless frames. Tennessee Wesleyan broke through in the fourth, scoring three runs on two hits with the aid of an error and a hit batter. Burkhalter finished with four innings pitched, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits, striking out four.
- Cameron Heaney was efficient in his lone inning of work, retiring the side in order on 10 pitches in the eighth.
- Shortstop Jedvier Garcia recorded the Cougars' lone hit of the game in the top of the seventh inning.

THE RUNDOWN
- The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the series finale, as Payton Hankins drew a one-out walk before Rodney Rachel's two-run blast to left field put IU Kokomo up 2-0 in the top of the first.
- Senior Cam Howard made his long-awaited IU Kokomo debut in game four, earning the start on the mound. The Fishers, Indiana, native worked around two first-inning walks to keep the Bulldogs off the board, then struck out three in the bottom of the second.
- Tennessee Wesleyan finally got on the board in the third inning, following a walk with consecutive hits to even the score at 2-2 through three innings.
- Corbin Napier ripped a double with one out in the fourth for the Cougars, marking his team-leading second extra-base hit of the season. Nate Montgomery followed by getting hit by a pitch, but neither runner would come around to score.
- Cam Heaney pitched a scoreless fifth before Tennessee Wesleyan scored two runs in the sixth. Heaney took the loss despite showing effectiveness in multiple appearances over the weekend.
- IU Kokomo was unable to mount a rally in the top of the seventh, and fifth-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan held on for a 4-2 win to complete the series sweep.
LEADING THE CHARGE
- Junior outfielder Rodney Rachel hit his first home run as a Cougar just three batters into the game, driving in a team-best two runs and joining four teammates with multiple hits over the weekend.
- Right-hander Cam Howard took a no-decision in the loss, working four innings and allowing three hits and two earned runs while walking three and striking out seven, showcasing his wipeout stuff.
- Owen Norris bounced back from a tough first outing, allowing just one hit in two-thirds of an inning and inducing a 6-4-3 double play to end the sixth.
