IU Kokomo Survives Tight Battle with Kentucky Christian for Seventh Consecutive Victory

KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven with a 92–88 victory Saturday over a tough Kentucky Christian squad, improving to 3–1 in River States Conference play.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • IU Kokomo and Kentucky Christian came into Saturday's matchup as two of the quickest and highest-scoring teams in the River States Conference, and fans got exactly that action inside the SAEC.
  • Kentucky Christian came out with energy, leading for much of the opening ten minutes. A fastbreak layup by Alonzo Clawson-Smith gave the Cougars their third lead of the game at 22–21, as the two teams began trading leads.
  • The Knights extended their lead to double digits at 45–35 with 2:21 remaining in the half, but IU Kokomo quickly chipped away to head into halftime trailing 47–43.
  • After Kentucky Christian knocked down a three-pointer on their opening possession of the second half, IU Kokomo responded by scoring the next 14 points to take a seven-point lead. The two teams began trading leads again midway through the second half, eventually tied at 81 with 4:58 remaining.
  • Kentucky Christian scored five straight points to take an 86–81 lead and again led 88–85, but IU Kokomo responded each time to tie the game. After a defensive stop, Alonzo Clawson-Smith converted at the rim to give the Cougars a 90–88 lead. Clawson-Smith and Ty Wills each went 1-of-2 from the free-throw line in the final seconds, sealing a 92–88 victory for IU Kokomo.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Alonzo Clawson-Smith and Joseph Annan Jr. led IU Kokomo's offensive charge Saturday, combining for more than half of the team's 92 points. Clawson-Smith finished with 29 points and eight rebounds, while Annan Jr. added 25 points and seven boards. The duo also went 14-of-16 from the free-throw line.
  • Seniors Ty Wills and Evan Kretz contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.
