Cougars Dominate IU Columbus as McGraw Erupts for Career High, Kretz Hits Six Threes

KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball team closed out its three-game homestand in dominant fashion Tuesday night, rolling past IU Columbus 107–82 behind a career-high scoring performance from Jake McGraw and six three-pointers from Evan Kretz.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • IU Kokomo led 12-10 at the under 15 media timeout and pushed the advantage to eight by the under 10, as the Crimson Pride of IU Columbus stayed pesky throughout the night and refused to go away.
  • Leading by nine with eight minutes remaining in the first half, the Cougars stretched their advantage to 19 over the next three and a half minutes. The first half lead grew to as many as 23 behind 21 first half points from Jake McGraw in the closing minutes, as IU Kokomo carried a 53 to 37 lead into halftime.
  • IU Columbus kept the IU Kokomo lead under 20 until there was 8:22 remaining, when Evan Kretz knocked down his first of three three pointers to spark a 17 to 0 run that pushed the IUK advantage to 34 at 96 to 62.
  • Both benches emptied with substitutions in the final minutes as IU Kokomo closed out a 107-82 victory over IU Columbus, marking their eighth straight win.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Freshman Jake McGraw put together a breakout performance, pouring in a career- and game-high 27 points on 12-of-16 shooting while adding five rebounds in 31 minutes of action.
  • After scoring just two points in the first half, senior Evan Kretz erupted for 22 points in the second half, connecting on six three pointers, which marked his most in a game this season.
  • Alonzo Clawson-Smith and Joseph Annan Jr. also scored in double figures, with Clawson-Smith posting 14 points, eight assists, and four rebounds, while Annan Jr. added 12 points and five rebounds.
