GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Indiana University Kokomo baseball team dropped their final midweek match-up of the season Wednesday, as the Cougars fell to Georgetown (Ky.) on the road by a score of 9-8. The two squads utilized ten pitchers, with each side rolling out five guys a piece. The Tigers victory split the season series, as each side protected their home field.
Georgetown started the scoring off quickly, as they scored three runs off of Cougar starting pitcher
Koen Berry in the bottom of the first inning.
IUK got one run back in the top of the third, as
Noah Wolf scored courtesy of an RBI single off the bat of
Mason Janz. However, Georgetownn got that run back immediately, as they scored in the bottom half of the inning to put the lead back at three runs.
After a scoreless fourth from both sides,
Alex Janke brought home
Anthony Nino on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to two. With Georgetown putting up a donut in the bottom half, the Cougar bats got hot.
Things got started with an RBI single from
Mike Talesky that brought home
Garrett Lupoi. Immediately after this,
Anthony Nino brought home a pair of runs with a single to center that plated both Talesky and
Payton Hankins. Wolf kept the sixth inning party going, as he tripled home Nino and scored one batter later on a single from Janke. After a throwing error on a ball put in play from
Mason Janz, Janke used his speed to cross the plate for the Cougars' sixth and final run of the frame.
Georgetown pitching kept the Cougar offense scoreless the rest of the game, as the Tiger offense got two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, and then won the ballgame on a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth. The loss dropped the Cougar squad to 19-26 on the season, with four games remaining in the regular season.
Pitching Notables:
- Koen Berry got the start for the Cougars, tossing two innings in his appearance and allowing two runs.
- Freshman Kaleb Shelton was first out of the pen for IUK, and tossing three scoreless innings in relief of Berry.
- LHP Dylan Bryant came in later and tossed two scoreless frames of his own, striking out three Tiger hitters on the day.
