Baseball Splits Doubleheader Friday with Miami-Hamilton as the 2025 Senior Class is Honored on Senior Day

KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo baseball team played their final home games of the regular season Friday afternoon, as the program's 13 seniors were honored prior to first pitch against Miami-Hamilton. The Cougars split the doubleheader with the Harriers, dropping game one 3-2 before bouncing back to win game two 5-3.

Game One: 3-2 Loss
  • Miami-Hamilton scored all three of their runs in the opening frame, capitalizing on a pair of IU Kokomo errors while slashing for three hits as they took an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Cougars were unable to push a run across the plate until the home-half of the fifth, as Brayden Coffey singled to right-field before eventually scoring on an Alex Janke bases-loaded walk.
  • IU Kokomo would add another in the sixth to pull within a run with just one inning remaining, as Garrett Lupoi doubled down the right field line before scoring a batter later thanks to a Coffey RBI single.
  • The Cougs stranded a pair in the bottom of the seventh, as Miami-Hamilton escaped with a 3-2 victory in game one.

Pitching Notables:
  • Mason Whiteley made the start for the Cougs, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks, striking out a pair in two innings of work.
  • Logan Greer entered to pitch the third, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out four while surrendering a hit and two free passes.
  • Jack Bruington posted a zero in the sixth, facing the minimum despite allowing a hit.
  • JT Holton pitched around a pair of base-hits in the seventh to post a zero, striking out a man.

Game Two: 5-3 Win
  • Unlike game one, IU Kokomo struck first with a pair of runs in the first and three more in the second.
  • Mason Janz reached via hit-by-pitch before Mike Talesky reached via error, setting up Kasey Ross who delivered a two-RBI double for a 2-0 lead after one.
  • After Derek Seigneur reached base via throwing error to open the home-half of the second, Noah Wolf singled to right field and stole second to put a pair of runners in scoring position with one out. Alex Janke then came through with a two-RBI triple before scoring himself on a Jacob Medvescek RBI-single, extending the Cougar lead to 5-0 through two complete.
  • After three-straight scoreless frames, the Harriers pushed three across in the sixth to make it a game, yet the Cougars slammed the door shut in the seventh to win 5-3 and split Friday's DH.

Pitching Notables:
  • LHP Brett Huiner continued his string of strong starts, tossing five complete to earn the win and improve to 7-1 on the season. He allowed just two hits and a walk while fanning five Friday afternoon.
  • Ethan Leslie surrendered three runs on four hits in his lone inning of work, striking out one.
  • Justin Bultemeier entered to toss the seventh for IU Kokomo, earning his first save of the season with a scoreless frame. Bultemeier struck out two while facing the minimum.

The Cougars will now head to Hamilton, Ohio, Saturday for two more against Miami-Hamilton, closing out the 2025 regular season ahead of next week's River States Conference Baseball Championship.
