Cougars Roll Past IU Columbus Tuesday; Winner of Saturday's Matchup at SMWC Advances to Postseason

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The IU Kokomo Women's Basketball team completed the season sweep of RSC West division foe IU Columbus Tuesday night, cruising to a 66-40 road win. The victory moves the Cougars into a tie for fourth in the division with SMWC, with the top four teams from each division advancing to the RSC Championship.

IU Kokomo and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods share identical conference records of 6-9, and the two squads are set to lock horns this Saturday in the regular season finale. The winner of Saturday's contest will claim the RSC West's fourth seed and a spot in a River States Conference Championship Quarterfinal next Wednesday.

First year Head Coach Lisa Pflueger's Cougars opened Tuesday's pen-ultimate regular season game scoring nine of the first 11 points for an early seven-point lead. IU Columbus trimmed the deficit to two at 9-7, but IU Kokomo led 15-9 after one quarter.

The Cougar lead was quickly extended to double-digits in the second quarter, as a Mia Catey layup made it a 22-11 lead. Defensively, IU Kokomo was nails all game long, never allowing more than four field goals made in any quarter. It was a 29-19 halftime lead for the Cougs.

After allowing the Crimson Pride to hang around within single digits for much of the first half, IU Kokomo put their foot on the gas in the third quarter, outscoring IU Columbus 20-8 to lead by 22 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

IU Columbus never managed to trim their deficit below 20 points in the fourth quarter, as the Cougars closed out a 66-40 road win over the host Crimson Pride.

Four Cougars scored in double-figures Tuesday inside the Circle K Fieldhouse, as sophomore guard Cameryn Rector scored a game-high 15 points in 39 minutes of action.

Anna Kiser finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while fellow forward Mia Catey recorded a 12 point, 11 rebound double-double. Lexi DiOrio was the final Cougar to score in double-figures, as she added 10 points and six boards.

Tip-off Saturday is set for 2:00 PM ET inside the Jeanne Knoerle Center on the campus of SMWC.
