MARIETTA, Ohio. - The IU Kokomo Women's Indoor Track and Field team finished second in this past weekend's River States Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, held inside the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center on the campus of Marietta College. The runner-up finish is the program's third-consecutive second-place finish at the event.
The Cougars finished the weekend with 126 points, 52 points back of first-place Rio Grande and 17 points clear of third-place Brescia. Athletes score points for the team by finishing Top-8 in their events, while the top three finishers from each event are named All-Conference. Â
Sydney Duncan's run of dominance this indoor season continued Friday and Saturday in Eastern Ohio, as she won the Shot Put Friday before winning the Weight Throw Saturday, delivering Meet Record and School Record marks in each event.
Duncan won the Shot Put by more than four meters with the best toss in the NAIA this season, chucking it 16.75 meters. Saturday's win in the Weight Throw came by more than two meters, winning the event with a throw of 17.08 meters as the Cougar women swept the podium.
Leslie Sprankles finished third in the 600 meter run, setting a new school record in the event with a time of 1:42.08. Sprankles, along with
Leah Highley,
Paige Brooks, and
Jaydi Jones, set a new school record in the 4x400 meter relay, as they finished third in a time of 4:15.78.
2025 NAIA Indoor Nationals qualifier Madison Dotlich set a new 3K Racewalk program record, finishing second in the event in a time of 17:05.99.
Senior distance runner
Hannah Wells set a new school record in the 1000 meter run, as she finished second behind Rio Grande's Lauren Hamm with a time of 3:08.25. Wells also turned in the second best 600 meter run time, crossing the line fifth with a time of 1:43.36.
Lily Greene found the podium in the first RSC Championship meet of her career, finishing third in High Jump while tying a program record, clearing 1.50 meters.
The IU Kokomo Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team of Sprankles, Highley, Wells, and
Keeley Carpenter won the event by 13 seconds, finishing with a time of 13:08.38.
