Women's Basketball Beats Brescia on Senior Day to Split Season Series

KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo Women's Basketball team avenged a 25-point road loss suffered at Brescia earlier this season, beating the Bearcats 63-58 on Senior Day inside the Student Activities and Events Center.

The win is massive in the Cougars late-season bid at a River States Conference Championship appearance. Brescia entered the game in second place in the RSC West, with the Cougars in fifth.

Brescia led 4-2 early before IU Kokomo scored eight-straight to take a 10-4 lead. The Cougars led 16-13 after one quarter behind six points from Mia Catey.

The Bearcats strongest quarter of the game came in the second, as they outscored IU Kokomo 23-11 in quarter number two. It was a nine-point halftime lead for Brescia.

The momentum from the second period seemed to transfer over to the third early on, as Brescia extended the lead to double-digits by the seven minute mark. After trimming the deficit to four multiple times, IU Kokomo eventually pulled within one possession with 1:16 remaining in the quarter, but a late three-pointer gave Brescia a 49-44 lead heading into the fourth.

Brescia quickly managed to rebuild their lead back to 10 at 54-44 less than a minute into the quarter, yet IUK Head Coach Lisa Pflueger's squad refused to quit. From that point on, the Cougars outscored the Bearcats 19-4 to pull off a crucial comeback win, 63-58.

The IU Kokomo defense held Brescia scoreless for 6:53 in the middle of the fourth quarter, fueling a 12-0 scoring run.

Kelsi Langley led the Cougars in 23 minutes of action off the bench, finishing with 17 points and eight rebounds. Langley went 9/10 at the charity stripe, and 4/10 from the field.

Anna Kiser and Mia Catey each added 16 points, with Catey pulling down seven rebounds and Kiser grabbing five.

The Cougars will close out the regular season with a pair of road games, first at IU Columbus before a battle with with SMWC on Saturday.
