OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - The IU Kokomo Women's Basketball team showcased their toughness and resiliency on the road Tuesday night, as a second-half surge from Oakland City propelled them to a win after trailing the Cougars late in the opening half.
First year Head Coach Lisa Pflueger's team came out ready to play inside the Johnson Center, scoring the first seven points of the game while keeping the Mighty Oaks scoreless until the 5:11 mark of the opening quarter. The Cougars led 17-12 after one quarter, as
Mia Catey knocked down a jumper with four seconds remaining.
Lexi DiOrio got the scoring started in the second, drilling a three-pointer to make it an eight-point IU Kokomo lead. Leading Oakland City 27-20 with five minutes to play in the first half, the Mighty Oaks closed the frame on a 10-0 run for a three-point halftime lead.
Having found a bit of rhythm offensively at the end of the first half, Oakland City outscored IU Kokomo by nine in each of the final two quarters, going on to win 78-57 over a gritty Cougar squad.
Mia Catey led the IU Kokomo offense again Tuesday, scoring a team-high 16 points.
Anna Kiser made it two straight games with a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Kelsi Langley added 11 points in 17 minutes of action off the bench, her highest scoring output since the December 18th matchup with St. Ambrose where she poured in 18 points.
The Cougars will return home for Senior Day this Saturday, as they will welcome the Brescia Bearcats to town for a 3:00 PM tip-off. Senior day festivities will be held prior to tip.
