THE RUNDOWN
  • Saturday's matchup was another hard-fought, intensely contested 90 minutes, with IU Kokomo edging out Shawnee State with a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
  • Avery Wilson and Mya Hernandez teamed up for the match's only goal in the 37th minute, with Hernandez setting up Wilson, who narrowly beat the goalkeeper to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
  • After a scoreless first half for the Bears in which IU Kokomo held a narrow edge in possession, Shawnee State applied more pressure in the attacking third, pushing for an equalizer in the final 45 minutes.
  • IU Kokomo held Shawnee State scoreless despite the second-half pressure, claiming a 1-0 victory for their 10th win of the season and maintaining momentum heading into the postseason.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Freshman Avery Wilson, a Gas City native and Mississinewa High School alum, scoring a goal in her third-straight match, this time delivering the game-winner. Wilson now leads the team with seven goals.
  • The IU Kokomo back line, along with senior goalkeeper Kailee Moore, deserves credit for the shutout, keeping the Bears scoreless for 90 minutes despite facing some pressure in the second half. Moore stopped all seven Shawnee State shots on frame.

INSIDE THE HUDDLE
  • "I'm so happy for this team. We have overcome a lot this season and day in and day out we find a way to get the result. Our central midfield played well tonight and our back line stepped up in a big way. Having Avery up one in to win it for us a big moment. She has grown so much already and two-games in a row she was a game changer. I'm so incredibly happy for this team and we are ready for the tournament." - Head Coach Sohaila Akhavein
  • "In the first half we struggled with matching intensity but I think as a team we realized that we needed to pick it up and we did to secure the win." - Freshman Avery Wilson

THE ROAD AHEAD
  • Next Match: 11/8 vs winner of #6 Brescia at #3 WVU Tech - 7:00 PM ET
