THE RUNDOWN
  • Experienced head coach Sohaila Akhavein's Cougar squad dominated possession for much of the match, as senior Kaiya Bogers set the tone early with a high-danger scoring chance in the opening minute.
  • Scoreless through 19 minutes despite a few early chances, freshman forward Avery Wilson collected a pass from teammate Gia Tumber and beat the SMWC goalkeeper to give IU Kokomo a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.
  • Despite recording four more shots on goal and seven total shots, the Cougars were held scoreless for the remainder of the half by the Pomeroys, thanks in large part to strong goalkeeping.
  • The second half belonged to Charity Lewis, as the junior defender scored her first collegiate goal while contributing five shots, three on goal, and taking five corner kicks.
  • Lewis's goal came in the 60th minute, just minutes after she sent another free kick on target, prompting SMWC goalkeeper Eerike Erjansalo to make a remarkable save.
  • Down 2-0, the Pomeroys managed only one more shot on goal as the Cougars cruised to their second shutout victory of the season.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Avery Wilson scored her fourth goal of the season, tying her with fellow forward Kaiya Money for the team lead. She also recorded a career-high four shots on goal.
  • As noted, Charity Lewis had a career day, finishing the match with a goal on six shots, including four on target.
  • Both Kaiya Bogers and Gia Tumber delivered strong performances, each registering two shots on target, with Tumber earning her first point of the season.
  • Senior goalkeeper Kailee Moore saved all four shots on goal Thursday evening, as the IU Kokomo defense shut down any serious scoring threats from the Pomeroys.

INSIDE THE HUDDLE
  • "I was really happy with how we moved the ball today, created dangerous opportunities, and got into the final third." - Head Coach Sohaila Akhavein
  • "We played really well today. We inspired creativity and action amongst each other, while executing the things we discussed prior to kick off. We were able to net two goals because of it. Overall, for utilizing a new system, we achieved our standard, dominated possession, and played the full 90. Definitely taking this momentum and mindset into Saturday." - Senior Kailee Moore
