#16 Volleyball Rolls Past Brescia on Senior Day

KOKOMO, Ind. - The 16th-ranked IU Kokomo volleyball team dominated the Brescia Bearcats on Senior Day Saturday afternoon, as the Cougars celebrated seniors Maggie Machado, Allison Richman, and Lexi Broyles with special recognition before and after the match.

THE RUNDOWN 
  • After falling behind 4-2 early in the opening set, IU Kokomo quickly settled in with a dominant 10-0 run to seize an eight-point advantage. Brescia managed a brief rally to trim the deficit to seven and prompt an IUK timeout, but the Cougars closed out the set convincingly, 25-15.
  • IU Kokomo carried their momentum into the second set in dominant fashion, overpowering the Bearcats 25-6. The Cougars hit an impressive .619 while limiting Brescia to a -.125 hitting percentage.
  • By the midpoint of the third set, the Cougars had doubled up Brescia with a commanding 17-6 lead. Late in the match, Brynn Berndt entered for Cali Cummings and delivered the match-clinching kill, sealing a 25-11 win in the third set and completing the 3-0 sweep of the Bearcats.

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • The IU Kokomo offense delivered another balanced performance Saturday afternoon, with Mia Niekamp leading the way with 10 kills and Mya Grigsby close behind, contributing nine kills and an impressive .667 hitting percentage. Ryleigh Hamilton also delivered in a big way, hitting .500 wth seven kills.
  • All three seniors turned in standout performances on Saturday. Allison Richman and Lexi Broyles each recorded five kills with hitting percentages above .500, while Richman and Maggie Machado made a major impact from the service line. Richman also tallied 20 assists, six digs, and five aces in a well-rounded effort.
  • Grigsby anchored the defense with 10 digs, while Avery Littrell added nine of her own.
