KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team opened a four-match home stand Wednesday night by hosting 15th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan. The Cougars fell 3-0 to the Wildcats in the squads first of six matches to be played at Northwestern High School.
The WIldcats of Indiana Wesleyan pounced early, scoring just over two minutes into the match to take an early lead.
After falling behind quickly, the IU Kokomo defense seemed to settle in and find their footing, highlighted by numerous stellar saves from junior goalkeeper
Kailee Moore. Moore was tested on multiple occasions, as she would finish the night with 17 saves.
A foul on Moore in the box granted IWU a penalty kick in the 37th minute of the match, but Wildcat Katelyn VanderArk would miss the PK wide left to keep it a one-goal match.Â
With less than a minute remaining in the first half however, VanderArk would redeem herself with her fourth goal of the season, making it a 2-0 Indiana Wesleyan lead heading into halftime.
Moore was forced to make three saves in the first five minutes of the second half, but she was not forced to make another save until the 65th minute. The Wildcats would however add on in the 75th minute, extending their lead to three with 15 minutes remaining.
#15 Indiana Wesleyan would go on to close out the 3-0 shut-out win, despite a gritty effort defensively from an IU Kokomo squad that had struggled against a pair of Top-20 programs earlier in the season.
The Cougars face a quick turnaround, as they will be back in action Friday at Northwestern High School against the University of Cincinnati-Clermont. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
