SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team opened their 2024 season Thursday evening in Georgia with a stiff-test, a battle with the 14th ranked Bees of SCAD Savannah on their home pitch.
The experienced Bees were simply able to overpower a young Cougars squad that struggled to find their footing in the sweltering Georgia heat. SCAD Savannah scored two goals in the opening two minutes, and six in the opening 45 minutes.
#14 SCAD would add four more second half goals on their way to a dominant win over IUK in the season opener.
The Cougars mustered two shots on goal, with one coming in each half. IU Kokomo's
Charity Lewis had a "Grade-A" scoring chance in the final minutes, but the Bees' Katelynn Balsiger had an answer in goal, keeping the Cougs scoreless.
IU Kokomo will return to action Saturday afternoon in northern Georgia against the Roadrunners of Dalton State College at 2:00 PM.
