KOKOMO, Ind. - The IUK baseball team lost to the Midway Eagles by a score of 6-3 on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Cougars hold an overall record of 29-15 this season and a 17-5 mark in conference games.
The Eagles put themselves on the scoreboard first with an RBI single in the top of the first inning. In the second, the visitors added another score in the second inning with a solo home run to take an early 2-0 lead over IU Kokomo.
Midway scored two more runs in the third inning to increase their lead to 4-0.
The Cougars scored their first run of the game in the fifth inningĀ when
Jacob Medvescek crossed the plate on
Caden Whitehead's RBI single.
In the sixth inning,
Riley Garczynski scored on an RBI double by
Kasey Ross, who then scored on
Jacob Medvescek's single; the Cougars trailed by just one run going into the seventh inning.
The Eagles, however, scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning, and IUK failed to answer as Midway claimed a 6-3 victory.
Logan Greer got the start for IUK. Greer walked one batter and gave up seven hits and four earned runs, taking the loss.
Blake Kimball relieved Greer in the third inning and spent five innings on the mound. Kimball recorded one strikeout and two walks while surrendering five hits and two runs.
Asa Christie closed for the Cougars and walked one batter in the ninth inning.Ā
The Cougars will finish their three game series against Midway with a doubleheader tomorrow, before a single game next Tuesday at national power University of the Cumberlands.
