Four Cougar Arms Combine on No-HItter in Game One Win at IUPUC

COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo baseball team won in unique fashion Friday afternoon at IUPUC, as the Cougars combined to no-hit the Crimson Pride in an 8-1 road win. Friday's game is the first River States Conference matchup between the two in-state foes.

The no-hitter is the second all-time in IU Kokomo program history, but the first combined no-hitter. Renton Poole threw a no-no in the spring of 2018, the first year of the program.

Logan Greer earned a second-consecutive weekend series opening start, laying the foundation for a combined no-no with six strong innings of no-hit ball. Greer surrendered four free passes, however he struck out seven Crimson Pride hitters to improve to 3-2 on the year.

The Cougars hung a crooked number in the top half of the first to open with a bang, smacking two triples in the inning. Tucker Platt and Jack Leverenz each recorded an RBI triple in the inning, while Kasey Ross had an RBI single to make it 3-0 Cougs.

IU Kokomo would add single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, making it a 5-0 lead through five innings. Thomas Obergfell hit a sac-fly to score Ross in the fourth before Platt added another RBI to his count on a groundout.

Freshman shortstop Brayden Coffey reached via error in the seventh before scoring on an Alex Janke single a batter later. Janke would score on another Crimson Pride error, extending the IUK lead to 7-0. Coffey then recorded a sac-fly RBI in the eighth for the Cougars final run of the day, making it 8-0.

IUPUC would score an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Cougars comfortably closed out an 8-1 victory in the program's first ever combined no-hitter.

Nathan Stanley was the first man out of the pen for IU Kokomo Friday, tossing two innings of no-hit ball while striking out two.

Koen Berry entered in relief of Tyler Hensch in the ninth, inducing a ground-ball double-play and a flyout to seal the victory for IU Kokomo.

The Cougars will return to Cera Sports Park Saturday for a doubleheader with IUPUC to close out the three-game series. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
