Cougars Honor Seniors with 20th Consecutive Win Saturday

KOKOMO, Ind. - On Senior Day inside the SAEC, IU Kokomo volleyball's seven departing seniors were honored both before and after the Cougars sweep of Oakland City. The win was IUK's 20th consecutive with two matches remaining before the postseason begins.

The Mighty Oaks were able to keep pace with the 11th ranked Cougars early in set one, but IU Kokomo took a 13-9 lead midway through the set to force an Oakland City timeout. IU Kokomo led by as many as eight in set one on their way to a 25-17 set win.

The Cougars led by two at 9-7 in the second set before winning five of the ensuing six points for a 14-8 lead. Oakland City got within five at 20-15, but IUK won the following five points to close out a 25-15 second-set victory.

It was Oakland City who came out of the gates strong in the third set, jumping out to a 9-3 lead before the Cougars blinked. IU Kokomo's resiliency was then put on full display however, as an 8-0 run gave the Cougs a two-point lead.

Oakland City refused to go away quietly however, trailing 19-17 before IUK reeled off five-consecutive points. A Cali Cummings kill on set point number three closed out yet another sweep of an RSC, moving the Cougars to 14-0 in RSC play with two matches remaining.

Alexis Baney, Cali Cummings, and Lexi Broyles each recorded seven kills on the afternoon to lead the IU Kokomo attack, with Lea Mummert contributing five.

Allison Richman led the Cougars in assists and blocks with 15 and three respectively, while fellow setter Kaley Lyons had 14 assists and six digs.
