KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team cruised to a sweep of Brescia Friday evening in what was the Cougars penultimate home match of the regular season. The win is the programs 19th consecutive win, improving the Cougars to 26-4 overall and 13-0 overall.
After IU Kokomo won the opening three points of the match, Brescia won six-straight points to lead by three. With the score tied at 15, a 5-0 IU Kokomo run gave the Cougars a lead they would not relinquish, taking the opener 25-19.
The Bearcats found themselves in front once again up until the midway point of set two, where five-straight points went IUK's way for a 15-12 lead. Brescia battled back within two at 19-17, but the Cougars won six of the next seven points for a 25-18 set two victory.
Unlike the first two sets, IU Kokomo was dominant early in the third before allowing Brescia to climb their way back in and make it a two-point lead. The Cougars had a strong response however, going on a 7-0 run to take a commanding nine-point lead.Â
IU Kokomo closed out the match with a 25-14 set three victory.
Mya Grigsby led IUK in kills with nine while also tallying five aces.
Maggie Connell and
Lexi Broyles each floored eight kills while
Alexis Baney and
Cali Cummings each added five.Â
Kaley Lyons had 16 assists and nine digs, while
Allison Richman had nine digs and five aces.
Ellie Garland led the way with 13 digs and six assists.
The Cougars will play one final regular season home match Saturday, as the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City are coming to town on Senior Day.
