OWENSBORO, Ky. - The IU Kokomo volleyball team took care of business Friday night in Owensboro, dispatching the Brescia Bearcats in straight-sets for a 10th consecutive victory. The Cougars are now 17-4 overall and 5-0 in River States Conference play.
IU Kokomo found themselves in front by four at 16-12 just over halfway thru the opening set, but a 9-1 run from then on gave the Cougars a commanding 25-13 first-set win.
The Bearcats did well to stay in set two after ending set one on a bad note, as Brescia took a 14-12 lead  to force a
Heather Hayes timeout.
Trailing by one, the Cougars utilized a 4-0 spurt to take the lead for good in the second set. Kills on consecutive points from
Lexi Broyles and
Mya Grigsby made it a 25-19 second set win and a 2-0 lead for the Cougs.
Coach Hayes's squad opened the third on a high-note, winning the first seven points and 14 of the first 20.Â
Brescia managed to pull within five at 16-11 but IU Kokomo would go on to take set three 25-13, making it five-straight three-set wins and 10-consecutive victories overall.Â
Lexi Broyles led the Cougars offensively with nine kills and an astounding .615 hitting percentage.
Mya Grigsby also recorded nine kills on 28 attempts along with three aces. Both
Alexis Baney and
Maggie Connell added seven kills.
Kaley Lyons had a match-high 18 assists to go along with nine digs, while fellow setter
Allison Richman totaled 12 assists, four kills, and three digs.
Ellie Garland had a match-high 10 digs to pair with five assists.    Â
The Cougars will return to action in less than 24 hours at Oakland City. The match is set for a 1:00 PM ET first-serve.
