Volleyball Clinches RSC West Division Title with Sweep of WVU Tech

KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo volleyball program earned yet another River States Conference West Division Title Saturday with a sweep of WVU Tech. The win moves the Cougars to 12-0 in RSC play, clinching the title with two weeks remaining in the regular season..

Despite winning in straight sets over the Golden Bears, IU Kokomo was often tested and trailed at multiple points throughout the match. 

The opening set was full of the aforementioned close play, but it was the Cougars who forced a timeout by taking a 20-16 lead late in the set. After IUK extended the lead to six at 23-17, WVU Tech would cut the deficit in half while down 24-21. A Golden Bear attack error on the Cougs second set point gave IU Kokomo a 25-21 opening set win.

WVU Tech led early in the second frame before a 5-0 Cougar run made it a two-point lead in IUK's favor. Leading by just one at 16-15, IU Kokomo utilized an 8-0 run to take command of the set before winning it 25-17.

The Golden Bears held a lead until the midway point of set three, as a 6-0 spurt from the Cougars made it an 18-13 lead for IUK. The Cougs won the final four points of the set to win it 25-16 and the match in three.

Cali Cummings had a match-high 10 kills for a strong hitting percentage of .364. Setter Allison Richman tallied a career-high eight kills on 10 attempts, catching WVU Tech off-guard on multiple occasions. Mya Grigsby also added eight kills while Alexis Baney and Maggie Connell each contributed five. 

Kaley Lyons had a match-high 18 assists on the day, as Richman totaled 11. Ellie Garland led the team in digs with 16 with Lyons and Grigsby adding eight. Julia Sanders had six digs and three service aces.

IU Kokomo's final two regular season home matches are set for next Friday and Saturday, with Saturday serving as Senior Day for the program's seven graduating seniors.
