MIDWAY, Ky. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team earned a 3-0 shut-out victory Thursday afternoon at Midway for the squad's first River States Conference win of the year after a six-match win-less drought. With the win, IU Kokomo improved to 4-6-2 overall and 1-1-1 in RSC play.
IU Kokomo goalkeeper
Kailee Moore was forced to make a pair of saves in the opening 20 minutes of the match, but the Cougars dominated possession despite the match being scoreless at the 25 minute-mark.
Kelsi Hoot and
Hannah Hermansen teamed up to open the scoring in the 26th minute however, as Hoot sent a ball deep and connected with Hermansen in stride. It was one-on-one from there, as Hannah beat both the defender and the goalkeeper for her second career goal and a 1-0 IUK lead.
After continuing to supply more attacking pressure in the remainder of the first half, senior midfielder
Mackenzie Gibbons struck for a pair of goals in the final five minutes. In the 41st minute, a Gibbons header from an
Addison Waller corner kick made it a 2-0 lead, before Gibbons added on in the 42nd minute with a goal off of a
Jaidin Millsaps corner kick.
Playing with a three-goal lead for the entirety of the second half, Midway was able to out-shoot IU Kokomo in the final 45 minutes, but were unable to break-through against a stout Cougar defense. The Cougars would close out a 3-0 road win, as now all four IUK wins on the year have been of the shut-out variety.
Moore made stops on all eight Eagles shots on goal for IU Kokomo.
The Cougars are set to return home for the penultimate home match of the regular season Saturday at 5:00 PM against the Pomeroys of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
