PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team fell on the road Thursday at Shawnee State 67-44, snapping the Cougars two-game win streak. With the loss, the Cougs are now 5-12 overall, and 2-7 in River States Conference play.

IU Kokomo struggled to score early and often in the first half, scoring six first-quarter points to trail by seven after one quarter. Senior guard Kristen Ridner scored five of IUK's six first quarter points.

The Cougars were then outscored 17-8 in the second stanza, and went into the locker room at halftime down 30-14.

Interim Head Coach Lisa Pflueger's squad chipped away at the deficit early in the second half, forcing an SSU timeout with 6:23 remaining in the third quarter. 

The Cougars trimmed what was a 16-point halftime deficit to 10 in the final 90 seconds of the third quarter, but the Bears extended the lead back to 15 through 30 minutes.

Carrying a 46-31 lead into the fourth, the Bears of Shawnee State outscored the Cougars by eight in the final frame to close out a 67-44 win over IU Kokomo.

Shamaria Walker led IU Kokomo in scoring Thursday with nine points in 20 minutes of action off of the bench. Olivia Dowden added eight points while Ridner finished with seven.

The Cougars will head further east to Pittsburgh where they will battle the Pioneers of Point Park. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
