KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's basketball team defeated the Alice Lloyd Eagles on Thursday night, winning by a final score of 77-67. With the victory, the Cougars improve to 4-11 on the season and 1-6 in conference games.
Alice Lloyd struck first on a two point jump shot, before layups from
Hannah Hodgen and
Olivia Dowden, followed by a jumper from
Alaya Chapman put the Cougars in front 6-2. The Eagles then hit a three-pointer, but another scoring run by IUK increased the lead to 12-5.
At the start of the second quarter, the Eagles tied the score at 18, before the Cougars answered with a 13-0 scoring run, punctuated by back to back three pointers from
Anya Friend.
By halftime, the Cougars were in possession of a commanding 38-24 lead.Â
The Eagles opened the second half with a three pointer to cut their deficit to 11, but
Anna Kiser and
Olivia Dowden quickly brought IUK's lead back to 15. A competitive third quarter ended with a 53-43 lead for the Cougars going into the final period.
Alice Lloyd stormed back to take a two point lead of their own with a 12-0 scoring run at the start of the fourth quarter.
Alaya Chapman and
Anna Kiser scored layups to put the Cougars back in front, before the Eagles tied the score again at 57 apiece.
From here, the Eagles' comeback attempt started to fall apart, as IU Kokomo began to distance themselves yet again. By the buzzer, the Cougars had completed a 77-67 win for their first RSC victory of the season.
Olivia Dowden was the Cougars' top scorer in the win with 16 points.
Anya Friend and
Alaya Chapman also scored 12 points each, while
Cameryn Rector poured in nine and
Kristen Ridner &
Hannah Hodgen each added seven.
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, as they will welcome WVU Tech for another home conference game.
