KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo women's soccer team lost to #2 ranked Marian University by a score of 4-0 Saturday afternoon. It was the Cougars' first setback of the season, taking their record to 1-1-1 through three matches.
The Cougars struggled to maintain possession throughout the match, as the Knights continuously pushed the pace and controlled the flow. The Cougars only recorded 2 shots in the match against Marian's 29, 16 of which were on goal.
Keely Hoopingarner and
Elaina Page each recorded 1 shot for IUK, with Hoopingarner's being a shot on goal. Hoopingarner got behind the Knights back-line and forced the Marian goalkeeper to make a strong save with the match still tied at 0-0 in the 22nd minute.Â
Marian would get on the scoreboard soon after that scare, scoring two goals in each half of the match, striking in the 25th, 40th, 70th, and 80th minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kailee Moore was impressive despite allowing four goals. "Tex" made 12 saves on 16 Knights shots on goal, a career-high.
The Cougars will look to get back on track next week with a pair of home matches. They'll face off against IU Northwest on Wednesday night before an afternoon match against University of St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday.
