Women's Soccer Earns Impressive 6-1 Win at Freed-Hardeman to Improve to 1-0-1

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season Saturday afternoon, winning 6-1 at Freed-Hardeman to improve to 1-0-1.

The Cougars got the scoring started in the eighth minute to take a 1-0 lead, as Ashlyn Morefield scored on a goal assisted by Keely Hoopingarner off of a free kick.

The Lions of Freed-Hardeman would tie the match at 1-1 in the 34th minute, but the Cougars would respond shortly after.

Kelsi Hoot netted the go-ahead goal in the 38th minute, giving IU Kokomo the 2-1 lead heading into halftime. Hoot's goal, her first of the year, was also assisted by Hoopingarner.

IU Kokomo would go on to score four second-half goals, on their way to a 6-1 road win.

Hoopingarner enjoyed a strong performance Saturday in Tennessee, scoring her first two goals of the year in the second half  while picking up two assists. Morefield netted two goals herself, while senior Cassie Dispennett scored her first goal of the season.

Freshman Charity Lewis picked up the first point of her career Saturday with an assist on Dispennett's goal.

The Cougars will return to action next Saturday, August 26th, as they will host Marian University, the #2 team in the NAIA. Kick-off is set for 3:00 PM ET.
