PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The IU Kokomo baseball team fell 6-2 in Sunday's series finale at (RV) Point Park to fall to 24-19 on the season and a 14-10 River States Conference record.
With one RSC series left to play this season, IU Kokomo is in tie for fourth in the RSC with standings with Rio Grande. The Cougars will close out the regular season next Friday and Saturday at home as they host the RedStorm of Rio Grande for a three-game set.
Offensively
- IU Kokomo got on the scoreboard first, pushing a single run across in the top of the second for an early 1-0 lead. Tucker Platt led off the inning with a walk before scoring two batters later on a Luke Barnes double.
- Point Park scored their first runs of the game in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs on two hits to take their first lead of the game at 3-1.
- After two scoreless innings, the Cougars managed to push a run across in the sixth to cut the deficit in half at 3-2. Barnes singled to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a Dylan Steele single, stole third, and scored on the throw to second as Steele stole the bag.
- Leading 3-2 through seven and a half innings, Point Park scored three times for a 6-2 lead. The Pioneers scored the three runs on just two hits but four walks in the inning.
- The Cougars went down in order in the top of the ninth, giving Point Park the 6-2 win to take the series 2-1.
Pitching
- Ben Harris, the junior RHP, got the start on the bump for the Cougars and took the loss to fall to 4-3 on the season. Harris lasted 4.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks while fanning five.
- Mason Whiteley was the first Cougar out of the bullpen Sunday, surrendering three earned runs on a hit and three free passes while striking out a pair of Pioneer hitters.
- Freshman Asa Christie tossed the final 2/3 of the eighth to get IUK out of a jam. Christie allowed one hit while walking one and striking out a man.
