Baseball Takes Down Alice Lloyd 9-4 in First Game of Busy Weekend

KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo baseball team began a four-games in three-day stretch Thursday evening with a 9-4 win over Alice Lloyd College. The Cougars are now 20-17 overall and 10-8 in RSC play.

Offensively
  • Alice Lloyd found the scoreboard first, scoring three runs on two hits and one IU Kokomo error in the top of the second.
  • IU Kokomo immediately responded with five runs on five hits to take a 5-3 lead. Dylan Janke hit a solo-shot to lead off the inning and Matt Iacobucci followed with a single. Tahj Borom and Riley Garczynski had consecutive two-out singles, with Noah Hurlock scoring to make it a 3-2 deficit. Thomas Obergfell crushed a three-run homer to left to give the Cougars their first lead of the game.
  • The Cougars added a run in the bottom of the third, as Tucker Platt led off the inning with a triple before eventually scoring on the play.
  • Nolan Bowser came through with a two-RBI single in the fourth, scoring Borom and Garczynski for an 8-3 IU Kokomo lead.
  • Dylan Janke walked and scored on a Noah Hurlock RBI-single to left-center, giving the Cougars a six-run lead at 9-3.
  • The Eagles of Alice Lloyd pushed one final run across in the top of the eighth to make it 9-4, the score in which IU Kokomo would go on to win by.

Pitching
  • Mason Whiteley got the start and earned the win for the Cougars to improve to 3-3 on the season. Whiteley surrendered three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out six Eagles hitters.
  • Tyler Hensch was the first Cougar out of the pen, tossing a scoreless seventh despite walking two.
  • Asa Christie entered the game in a tight-spot in the eighth, but struck out the side without allowing a baserunner.
  • Brandon Clarke pitched the ninth to close out the five-run victory, allowing a hit and a walk while also striking out a man.

The Cougars will return to action at Kokomo Municipal Stadium tomorrow as they begin a three-game series against Brescia.
