Kokomo, Ind. – Indiana University Kokomo administration, and Director of Athletics Tom Norris are pleased to announce the launch of the Cougar's 15th varsity sport, eSports which will begin competition in the 2023 Fall semester. The university is in the process of hiring the program's first coach and recruiting players to join the team, which will operate as a coed team under the leadership of IUK Athletics.  
 

A rapidly growing collegiate sport, eSports allows students to compete against opposing teams online in a series of video games. Some of the games that the team will compete in include NBA 2K, Rocket League, Smash Bros, and NFL's Madden. The university has plans to create an "eSports arena" which will be the home of Cougars eSports. The arena will have multiple computers with high speed internet, gaming consoles, chairs, and lighting appropriate for advanced gaming. The program will host tournaments and compete on campus, but will not be governed by the NAIA, allowing them to compete against institutions of all sizes and divisions.
