COCHRAN, Ga. - The IU Kokomo baseball team opened the four-game series at Middle Georgia State with an 11-0 loss before bouncing back to win 11-1 in game two of Friday's doubleheader. With the split, the Cougars are now 5-3 on the season.
Game One Offensively
- Middle Georgia State got the scoring started in the bottom of the second, as the leadoff batter doubled and the next man followed with an RBI single. Ben Harris got IUK out of the inning with three strikeouts.
- The Knights added a run in the third and three more in the fourth for a 6-0 lead through four innings.
- Middle Georgia State scored one in the fifth and four runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete an 11-0 game one win.
- Jonathan Latham had two hits while Tucker Platt and Hayden Davis each had one.
Game One Pitching
- Ben Harris took the loss, falling to 2-1 on the season. Harris lasted four innings, allowing six earned-runs on nine hits while striking out seven.
- Garrison Brege tossed the fifth while Brandon Clarke and Mark Goudy combined to work the sixth.
Game Two Offensively
- As they did in the first game, Middle Georgia State scored first, scoring one in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead.
- IU Kokomo scored their first runs of the series in the top of the third, striking for fours run on five hits. Dylan Steele tripled to score Tahj Borom and Riley Garczynski, who both reached with singles. Steele would score on a wild pitch to make it 3-0 before Tucker Platt doubled and came around to score on a Will Richter single.
- The Cougars were kept off the scoreboard in the fourth, but added three more in the top of the fifth for a 7-1 lead. Noah Hurlock walked and Platt singled before Luke Barnes hit his fourth home-run of the year.
- IU Kokomo added four insurance runs in the top of the seventh on three hits. Platt tripled for his third-hit of the game and Will Richter followed with his first collegiate home-run to make it 9-1. Luke Barnes singled and scored on a Steele bases-loaded walk, and Borom was HBP and scored on a Latham sac-fly. The Cougars won game two 11-1 to even the series.
Game One Pitching
- JT Holton was in a groove Friday evening, tossing six innings of one-run ball for the win. Holton is now 2-0 on the year after allowing three hits and two walks while striking out nine Knights batters.
- Brandon Bultemeier tossed the seventh, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out one and inducing two fly-outs.
The Cougars will return to Middle Georgia State for another doubleheader on Saturday. First-pitch is set for 12:00 P.M.
