OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball team won on Senior Night at Oakland City 85-66, returning to winning ways. The Cougars are now 20-7 overall and 14-3 in River States Conference play.
Heading into the final game of the regular season, IU Kokomo sits atop the RSC West division standings by a game over IU Southeast.
IU Kokomo opened the game by scoring six-straight points to lead 6-0 two minutes in. Oakland City responded and tied the game at eight, but the Cougars answered as
Hunter Jackson drilled triples on consecutive possessions to give IUK a 14-8 lead.
Oakland City slowly chipped away at the IUK lead and eventually managed to take a lead of their own at 22-21. The game stayed within four-points for the next few minutes before the Cougars managed to extend a lead to six at 32-26.
The Mighty Oaks retook the lead in the final 30 seconds, but
Xavier Hines was fouled beyond-the-arc and hit all three free-throws to give IU Kokomo a 37-35 halftime lead.
IU Kokomo scored four-straight points out of halftime to make the lead six, and the Cougars would not relinquish the lead for the whole second half. Oakland City got within one on three seperate occasions in the first ten minutes of the second half, but IU Kokomo managed to hold on.
The Cougars led by six at 63-57 before six-consecutive points made it a 12-point IUK lead. IU Kokomo added on to the lead in the final six minutes and went on to win 85-66 at Oakland City.
Hunter White led IU Kokomo Tuesday, scoring 17 points, grabbing five rebounds, and dishing four assists.
Darian Porch had 15 points and six rebounds while
Noah Harris had 14 points and five boards.
Xavier Hines and
Hunter Jackson each added ten points.
The Cougars will close out the regular season Saturday with a home game against Brescia as we celebrate our four seniors. Tip-off is set for 3:00 P.M.
