FORT WAYNE, Ind. & GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The IU Kokomo men's Indoor track and field team competed in two different meets Friday evening. The sprinters, jumpers, and throwers traveled to Indiana Tech to compete in the Warrior Opener, while a pair of distance runners traveled to Grand Valley State University. Both meets were very competitive and full of great performances.
Junior Nick Anders had a stellar performance in the 3000m race walk. Anders' 14:18.36 performance hits the NAIA "A" Standard and punches his ticket to the 2024 Indoor National Championships in February.
Freshmen Hayden Nelson had another fantastic performance on Friday. Nelson broke his own 60m and 200m school records that he set just last week. His 60m time of 6.93 placed him fourth in the meet, and his 200m time of 22.86 was good for sixth overall.
Freshmen Brayden Voght finds himself on the record board with a 400m performance of 51.85, and an eighth-place finish for the meet.
A third Cougar freshmen Brayden Biddle joined in on the record breaking. Biddle now holds the pole vault record at 4.15m.
Sophomore Gabe Wedmore finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 15.50m.
Over at GVSU, distance runners Bryce Stateler and Steven Case performed very well. Case ran an impressive 1:58.33 in the 800m and is now second all time in school history for the indoor 800. Stateler ran a 4:37.35 in the mile and is now third all time in school history.
