INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Cougars opened their indoor season at the University of Indianapolis on Saturday, with a competition roster made up of mainly sprinters, jumpers, and throwers, as the distance runners are recovering from a successful cross country season.
The afternoon started out in record breaking fashion with three Cougars besting the existing long jump record. Julian Wallace finds himself on top of that trio and will now hold the record at 6.40m. Wallace would later win the 400m dash in a time of 52.02.
Freshmen Hayden Nelson shined in his college debut, setting school records in both the 60m and 200m dash. Nelson finished first place in the 60m dash with a time of 6.95, and third in the 200m dash with a time of 23.13.
Sophomore Tanner Gibson had a very impressive meet with three top-six finishes in the 60m, 200m, and long jump.
Gabriel Wedmore started his sophomore season on a high note with a school record mark of 16.21m in weight throw. Fellow thrower Seth Ireland set a big personal record of 13.80 meters in shot put and finished fourth place overall.
Here is what Sprints Coach Nolan Talley had to say about the men's performance on Saturday: "We have a much deeper men's team than we have had in years past, and I am very pleased with how they performed. We had many personal records and school records set today, and I am excited to see what this group can accomplish."
